I debated whether or not to post this since some people might find it morbid or something. But his passing was very peaceful and there doesn’t seem to be anything morbid or gratuitous about this shot. He seemed to have died in his sleep and this picture seems to capture that.

There are still two, which is good news. She had lost two, and since she nested with them, we couldn’t keep an eye on them. Now, they have fur, and she has one gray one and one tawny one. Still a little young to tell what gender they are.

Last week, she gave birth to 4 gerbils. One died right away and another died a couple of days later. The remaining 2 seem to be doing fine, although Elephant has been keeping them well-hidden. They are too young to determine gender, so we haven’t named them yet (even though that didn’t stop us from naming Elephant). Hopefully, they will soon be big and strong enough to wander from the nest.
