National Media Market 2008 Summary

I spent last week at the National Media Market in Lexington, KY. As with last year, the Market was a wonderful, rewarding experience. The Market kicked off with a special session about Digital Video Licensing. More of that discussion can be found here and new information will also be posted to this year’s wiki as it becomes available.

I want to list some of the titles that caught my interest. Getting to all the exhibitors is darn near impossible, so this list is by no means an exhaustive list of what is worth taking a look at.

Bullfrog Films

Icarus Films

The Cinema Guild

Filmakers Library

National Film Board of Canada

CineFete

The question remains as to how many of these I’ll be able to afford to add to our collection, but that’s my post-NMM2008 wish list.

I have a feeling that some of these titles will show up as recommendations for the Notable Videos Committee.

National Media Market 2008

Made my plans today for the 2008 National Media Market, for which, I set-up a wiki. This year, the Market will take place the week of September 22nd in Lexington, KY. It will be my first ever trip to KY.

I had a great experience at the Market last year and am really looking forward to getting back. This is the essential place to be if you are a film buyer for your library.

On September 21st, the day before the Market officially begins, there will be a special discussion taking place between media buyers and sellers to figure out pricing schemes for digital delivery.

National Media Market 2008

This year’s National Media Market will be held in Lexington, KY on September 22-26. The early bird deadline is May 1and you can save almost $100 by registering early.

Last year, I volunteered to create a wiki for the conference. I didn’t make the suggestion until very close to the conference, so not a lot of people participated. So, this year, I have already set-up the wiki, so there is plenty of time for people to contribute.

In addition, there will be a special meeting about digital rights the day before the conference. That information has not been posted to the official site or the wiki yet but should be available soon.

You can see my posts from the 2007 NMM here.
