The Solitary Life of Cranes is a short (27 min) film that explores the lives of men who operate cranes high above London. Much more interesting than that description implies, the film offers amazing cinematography and fascinating observations from the workers.
In its brief running time, the film raises some compelling insights into the effects of spending so much time alone. The men are at once isolated from the world and privy to a voyeuristic view of city life. It never directly interviews the workers (and does not even show their faces) but allows their words to drift over the images giving the film a dreamlike quality.
