A Walk to Beautiful is a moving and informative portrait of five women who travel from their small villages to Addis Ababa seeking treatment for fistula, a painful result of obstructed childbirth. Although the film focuses on these women’s particular stories, A Walk to Beautiful speaks volumes about poverty, malnutrition, and the mistreatment of women. Because the women are forced to marry young and because they are small due to malnutrition, these women more susceptible to obstructed labor. Fistula results from a combination of these factors and from a lack of obstetric care. Often these women are then shunned by their husbands and isolated from their communities.
