I Love Hip Hop in Morocco

I Love Hip Hop in Morocco starts off promising but loses steam quickly. Early part of the film focuses on issues of free speech, especially differences between the U.S. and the more repressive Moroccan culture. However, the film generates no tension because of this repression. The film charts the planning of a hip hop concert in Morocco. Although the artists speak about censorship, they face no resistance in planning their concert. Their only hurdle is that they did not get as much corporate sponsorship as they had hoped. The most interesting part of the film is how the artists appropriated U.S. hip hop conventions, which could have made for a more interesting film.
